The following document provides information regarding the usage of a computer in the residence halls. It describes what you should bring to campus, how to maintain your computer, information regarding La Salle University's polices, and resources available for students.

Here is what you will need:

1. Computer!

La Salle University recommended Notebooks:

The La Salle University recommended Notebook PC for the upcoming semester is the ThinkPad T61 Integrated or T61 Discrete. These models can be purchased from La Salle for the discounted price of about $1000 - $1300. For more information and to purchase, visit www.lasalle.edu/it/notebook

For those bringing their own Desktops and Laptops, we are recommending at least the following criteria:

  • Pentium 4, 1.3 Ghz Processor or higher
  • Windows XP or Vista
  • 512 MB RAM or higher
  • CD-ROM Drive or better
  • 10/100 Network Interface Card
  • Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007

2. Network Cable!

Cat 5e / RJ45 Ethernet cable. These are available at the La Salle University Bookstore.

3. Printer

Printers are optional for students to bring to campus. There are printers available in all student labs. Each student is allotted 400 pages per semester and can pay to add to that if necessary. However, some resident students find it beneficial to bring their own personal printer.

4. Telephone

Students need to bring their own phone. La Salle Univeristy provides a connection, and free local calling and voicemail. Voicemail set-up instructions are available on the Technology Services channel in your mylasalle portal under the "Student Services" tab.
