Dr. James E. Moore Appointed Vice President for
Student Affairs/Dean of Students at La Salle University

The President's Higher Education Community Service

La Salle University has appointed Dr. James E. Moore to the position of Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. Moore had held a similar position at Marian University in Wisconsin. He will assume his position on July 31.

"I am excited to have Jim join the La Salle University community, not only because he brings a wealth of student affairs experience to the position, but also because his broad familiarity with Catholic higher education is an excellent fit with our strategic initiative to deepen the integration of our Lasallian mission into student life," said Br. Michael McGinniss, F.S.C., President of La Salle University.

Moore said, "I am delighted at the opportunity to join La Salle University. I look forward to developing positive relationships with all members of the campus community who so fully embody the values of the Christian Brothers."

For the past two years, Moore was Vice-President for Student Affairs and Campus Planning at Marian, where he was the executive officer for all areas of student life, including residence life, student activities, counseling, career and graduate school services, student health, intercollegiate athletics, intramurals, coffee shop, and campus safety. Among his accomplishments, Moore led a university-initiated, county-wide diversity project and negotiated an energy partnership with a local utility to fund more than $1.25 million in energy conservation, safety, and deferred maintenance projects.

Previously, Moore was Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students at Benedictine College in Kansas from 2003 to 2007; Assistant Vice President for Student Services at Creighton University from 1997 to 2003, Dean of Students at Marquette University from 1984 to 1997, and multiple student affairs roles at Iowa State University. For 18 years, Moore has represented the Higher Learning Commission, the Midwest regional accreditation organization, serving as a team chair and team member.

He earned his B.A. degree in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, his M.A. in student personnel work in higher education from The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Iowa State University.

His community involvement has included Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Club, youth baseball leagues, and various parish activities. Both of Jim’s grown children graduated from Creighton University and his wife, Jan, is also a college educator.

"The selection of Jim Moore is the culmination of a national search that generated considerable interest and highly qualified candidates," added Br. McGinniss. " I am grateful to the Search Committee, chaired by Br. Bob Kinzler, and to the executive search firm Lauer, Sbarbaro Associates/EMA Partners International for their valuable service."
