Faculty and staff are an essential to ensuring students are ready for life beyond La Salle. The Career Center welcomes collaboration with faculty and staff to help further our students' career and professional goals.
Handshake is La Salle’s job and internship search platform that includes positions on campus and at locations throughout the Philadelphia region, the United States, and beyond.
Handshake not only helps you with your job and internship search, you can also make appointments with Career Counselors ONLINE! Handshake is your one stop shop for all things career-readiness! Simply pick a day and time that best suits you to come in – you can also reschedule and cancel appointments at your convenience.
The Career Center offers students a range of supportive services in career readiness, resume and cover letter writing, job and internship searching, and interview preparation. We welcome collaboration with faculty and staff and encourage you to have students utilize the resources we provide. Referring students to the career center for appointments, directing them to handshake as a job search tool, and advertising our events and job fairs during class and/or in canvas are just a few ways you can work with us. We also offer the following presentations & workshops in collaboration with faculty:
The Career Center will come speak to your class briefly about our services, provide a short demonstration of Handshake, and walk students through scheduling an appointment with a Career Counselor.
This workshop includes a discussion on self-assessment and choosing a major. Students will take the Focus 2 Self-Assessment during the workshop, a tool for students of all majors and years to assist in making decisions regarding major choice and an opportunity to explore careers they may not have previously explored. This session requires a computer lab.
The Career Center offers a quick presentation on resume writing, as well as a workshop where students can begin to create resumes in real-time:
This presentation will guide students in understanding the difference between casual, business casual, and business professional dress. We will show several examples and discuss questions students may have regarding articles of clothing or accessories that they should or should not wear in different professional settings. Also included in this presentation is how to give a great handshake and how to create a 30-second elevator pitch.
During this presentation, the Career Center will provide interviewing tips (verbal and non-verbal) and common interview questions. We’ll also walk through behavior-based interview questions and how to answer them using the STAR method.
The Career Center wants to help increase students’ confidence in the job search process by providing valuable tips and tricks in this presentation. This presentation goes over how to use Handshake and other online sources when searching for a job or internship as well as how to use LinkedIn to create connections with fellow La Salle alumni. We will also talk about how to use the power of networking to find open positions.
This presentation helps students understand why it’s important to articulate their successes, experiences, and stories effectively. We will go over sample resume bullets that are specific to out-of-the-classroom experiences to help them convey them to employers. This presentation should be presented after a resume writing presentation or workshop.
Our goal is to ensure that all students leave La Salle prepared for successful and purposeful lives. This workshop includes information on how to recognize one’s individual strengths, skills, and interests. We will write reflections and work in small groups to discuss what employers are looking for in early career professionals.
