What You’ll Learn

The Information Technology program provides students with a broad foundation in the various areas that comprise the field. Required coursework includes classes in networking, information security, database management, and computer support, along with several programming and scripting courses.

Students may earn both a B.A. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Cybersecurity, a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Cybersecurity, a B.A. in Information Technology and a M.S. in Cybersecurity, or a B.S. in Information Technology and a M.S. in Cybersecurity by participating in the University’s Five-Year Program.

The Information Technology/Cybersecurity degree at La Salle allows students to pursue their undergraduate and graduate degrees in an accelerated Five-Year Program. This program offers small class sizes with personalized attention from professors, a lab-based practical education, and a wide range of classes in programming, databases, and networking to allow students to determine their interests and gain hands-on experiences for successful careers in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Cybersecurity fields.

Curriculum, Courses and Requirements

Highlighted Courses

CSIT 422: Information Security

This course covers basic computer security concepts, terminology, and issues, including network security, OS security, Web and Database security and hardening, spoofing, scanning, sniffing, public-key infrastructure, certificates, cryptography, etc.

CSIT 374: Penetration Testing

This course systematically covers the skills in penetration testing: the act of attempting to penetrate a computer system on behalf of the owners of the system for the purpose of discovering security vulnerabilities that can be exploited by a hacker.

CIS 654: Artificial Intelligence

This course introduces students to the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Students will learn how big data and data mining techniques are utilized by machines to create the AI models used by autonomous aircraft and automobiles, personal assistants, IT security software, fraud investigations and credit bureaus. The course will review the history, present day use, and future of artificial intelligence. Through case studies and current events, students will examine the benefits and risks associated with AI. The course will cover issues related to AI and privacy, ethics, and machine bias. Neuromorphic computing, the Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX), and data analytics will also be discussed.
