Hsiao-Ping Biehl, Ph.D.

Hsiao-Ping Biehl is an Associate Professor of Spanish at La Salle University. She received her M.A. and PhD. from Temple University in Philadelphia. Her primary area of specialization is Spanish Sociolinguistics and Dialectology with a secondary area of specialization in Latin American Colonial Literature. Dr. Biehl completed her doctoral research in Ecuador where she studied the acquisition of Spanish by Chinese speakers.

Dr. Biehl joined the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in 2007 and has taught a wide variety of undergraduate courses in basic and intermediate level Spanish, advanced level courses in literature, linguistics, and most recently, introduction to interpretation and translation. Dr. Biehl also teaches in the Hispanic Institute for the M.A. in Bilingual Bicultural Studies (BLS) and the M.A. in Teaching English for Students of Other Languages (TESOL).

Dr. Biehl’s research interests are on adult second language acquisition, languages in contact, and issues in language variation and change.
