Patrick T. Coyle, Ph.D., M.B.A., M.S.

Patrick Coyle is part of the Management and Leadership Department.  Born in Lansdale, PA, he grew up in southern New Jersey.  He completed his B.S. in business administration as well as his M.B.A. at Rowan University, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology at Virginia Tech.  His research focuses on three aspects of organizational behavior and human resources: 1) leadership, 2) individual differences, and 3) organizational effectiveness.  He is particularly interested in the roles of individual differences and perceptions in shaping the dynamic between leaders and followers.  He enjoys playing golf, running, and hiking in his free time, and can play the piano quite well.  He was born in Lansdale, PA, and is happy to be home!

Dr. Coyle has published several articles on leadership and team dynamics, in journals such as the Leadership Quarterly, Group and Organization Management, Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice, and the International Journal of Sports Psychology, on topics including followership, perceptions of international football leaders, interpersonal teamwork behaviors, and drivers of leader emergence. He has also taught several undergraduate and graduate courses on leadership and has consulted for several small businesses and Fortune 500 firms in leadership-related topics, and local governments on sports-related matters. Dr. Coyle is also an enthusiastic Philadelphia sports fan!
