We strongly recommend that faculty encourage students to use the academic support services that are available to them in the Center for Academic Achievement. We find that students are much more likely to use support services when their instructors recommend that they do so. The first step in normalizing asking for help is to include information about academic support services in your syllabus. Below is some general language that you can use to communicate to students in your syllabus, simply copy and paste.
We ask that you share this information with all of your students and personally recommend that you also use the Starfish early alert system to communicate directly with students using Kudos or Flags, as appropriate, to provide feedback about their progress in your class
Finally, if you are preparing your syllabus for the upcoming semester, you will be emailed documents which provide information on how to access academic support services for undergraduate and graduate students along with information about academic accommodations.
