The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2010 (Public Law 11 1-377) was signed on January 4, 2011. Effective August 1, 2021 for private schools like La Salle, the VA will pay the claimant’s benefit percentage of the in-state actual net cost up to a limit of $26,042.81 (August 1, 2021-July 21, 2022) for 100% eligible students.
Since August 1, 2011, La Salle is required to report the tuition and fees for the program of education after the application of any waiver of, or reduction in, tuition and fees; and any scholarship (ex. Founders), or other Federal, State, institutional, or employer-based aid or assistance (excluding loans and title IV funds) that is provided directly to the institution and specifically designated for the sole purpose of defraying tuition and fees. Aid or assistance that is not designated for the sole purpose of reducing a student’s tuition and fee cost will be excluded from the tuition and fees charged by La Salle, reported to VA.
The $26,042.81 cap is prorated based on the tier benefit level of the student. For example, if a student is eligible for the 80% tier benefit level, the cap for the academic year (fall, spring, summer) would be $20,834.25
Example ONLY:
Fall Semester—80% Eligible (cap $20,834.25):
Tuition and fees $16,625
Title IV (ex. Pell Grant) (2,500)
Federal Loan (2500.00)
Founders Scholarship -$5,000
Tuition and Fees Certified to VA $11,625
VA would pay up to 80% of tuition/fees $9,300

Student would be responsible for $2,325
While students may receive separate housing and book stipends from their chapter 22 benefits, VA cap monies are only applied to tuition and fees.
NOTE: In example, student was eligible for $20,834.25 for the year (8/1-7/31). Example student used $9,300 fall semester and has $11,534.25 left for spring and/or summer of that year.
Spring semester—80% Eligible:
Tuition and fees $16,625
Title IV (ex. Pell Grant) (2,500)
Federal Loan (2500)
Founders Scholarship -$5,000
Tuition and Fees Certified to VA $11,625
VA would pay (remainder of cap money) $9,300
_____________________________________________________
Student would be responsible for $2,325
NOTE: In example, student will have $2,234.25 remaining in benefits to use for summer tuition and fees.
Active Duty Students: Please note individuals on active duty (and their spouses using transferred entitlement) will be paid benefits at the applicable percentage of the maximum benefits based upon accrued qualifying service, just like veterans. This will apply to terms beginning on or after March 5, 2011 (summer 2011), for those pursuing a degree program at more than one-half time. Individuals on active duty with less than 36 months of service (and their spouses) will receive less than 100% of the tuition and fee charges certified by the school.
The Yellow Ribbon Program may still be utilized to pay for tuition and fee charges above the yearly VA cap for students who are 100% eligible. La Salle will provide up to $10,500.00 for undergraduate students and up to $5500.00 for graduates in Yellow Ribbon money spanning fall 2015, spring 2016, and summer 2016.
