His father was a naval officer, and the family thus moved around the U.S.
Attended 6 different grade schools and 2 different high schools before he joined the Christian Brothers.
Had the lead role in his high school play, “The Caine Mutiny.”
Graduating from La Salle College in 1968, he was the first student Brother to ever be named Class Valedictorian.
When La Salle was in the Sweet 16 in 2013 (NCAA college basketball), he was featured in an article in the New York Times on March 27 of that year for his role as team Chaplain.
