Did you know?

  • Brother Teliow was born in what is now Germany (1828) and immigrated to the U.S.
  • At age 23, he entered the Novitiate of the Christian Brothers in St. Louis (1851).
  • September 1862: He supervised the opening of Christian Brothers’ High School, which today is known as La Salle College High School.
  • Bishop (later Archbishop) James F. Wood of Philadelphia urged the Christian Brothers to seek a charter for the new high school and for a college. This was realized on March 20, 1863 in the charter for “La Salle College in the City of Philadelphia.”  Wood is thus considered as a Co-Founder of La Salle.
