The Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate program affords individuals an opportunity to change their current career path with one in the health professions. This program provides students with the necessary prerequisites for admission into medical school or another health professions program. Students in La Salle’s post-baccalaureate program have undergraduate degrees in engineering, business, and liberal arts.
La Salle offers two options: the career-change certificate program and a grade-enhancement program. Students with a prior experience who need to complete their requirements or wish to re-take some courses can pick and choose on an individual basis.
A linkage program exists with Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The advantage of such a program is that students do not have to sit-out the typical “glide year” between the time they apply to medical school and the time they start. Eligible candidates can apply, be accepted and matriculate within the same year. To receive the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate and be eligible to apply to one of the linkage programs, students must complete 7 science/math courses at La Salle University.
General Chemistry I provides a firm basis for understanding the fundamentals of chemistry. This course covers atomic and molecular structure, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, and the periodic table. The descriptive chemistry is principally concerned with the reactions of nonmetals and of ions in solution.
This course provides an introduction to five core concepts in biology (Information, Evolution, Cells, Homeostasis, and Emergent Properties) through an active learning, inquiry-based examination of molecules and cells. Critical thinking and quantitative reasoning are applied to authentic data to construct foundational knowledge. By engaging in the process of science, students will gain proficiency in core scientific competencies.
This course provides a review of algebra; simultaneous equations; trigonometry; functions and graphs; properties of logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions; problem-solving and modeling.
Our faculty teach across disciplines, bringing a breadth of knowledge and experience to enhance students’ education, within the classroom and beyond.
