Admissions Requirements

Professional Clinical Counseling (M.A.)

  1. Admissions Requirements
  2. FAQs

Ordinarily, students are accepted into the program two times a year to begin their studies in the Fall or Spring semester.

Applicants are required to engage with program faculty and staff through an Open House, Virtual Information Session, Program Pre-Admissions Discussion, or one-on-one meeting with the Director or Graduate Advisor.  Reflections from this interaction are a required component of the personal statement.

To be eligible for admission, applicants must submit:

  • Evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a minimum of 9-12 hours in psychology, counseling, marriage and family studies, or a related field and a GPA of 3.0. For admission evaluation, you will need to submit the transcript from the college/university where you earned your bachelor’s degree and, if applicable, Master’s degree. You will be notified if you need to submit additional transcripts.
  • The online application for admission.
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation. This should include a college professor who can assess your academic qualifications and abilities as well as a supervisor who can assess the your professional qualifications, abilities, and motivation for enrolling in this program.  All references should address your interpersonal skills.
  • A personal statement that addresses the following:
You have made the decision to apply to La Salle’s Master’s Program in Professional Clinical Counseling. This is a professional program designed to train you to become a licensed professional counselor (LPC).  In your statement, please include:
    • Some information about yourself
    • Your interest in the counseling profession
    • Information about your academic and career path
    • How do your professional aspirations align with La Salle University’s tradition of service through Solidarity and Justice? This vision calls for Lasallians “to stand with those impoverished and marginalized, to identify inequity and exclusion created by society, and actively respond not merely with charity, but with courage, creativity, and compassion.” The full mission statement can be found at https://www.lasalle.edu/mission-diversity-inclusion/mission-statement/.
    • Inter-cultural experiences that have influenced you professionally and/or personally
    • Reflections on your interaction with program faculty or staff through an admissions event (described above) or one-on-one meeting.  How did this experience influence your decision to apply to our program?
  • Resume or CV that demonstrates work experience (paid or volunteer).  Experience in an area related to counseling or the mental health field is valued and strongly recommended.
