Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity equips students with essential skills to combat the growing threats in the digital landscape. As cyberattacks become more sophisticated, organizations increasingly seek professionals proficient in protecting sensitive data and systems. This degree provides a strong foundation in network security, cryptography, and ethical hacking, making graduates highly employable. Additionally, the demand for cybersecurity experts continues to rise, offering lucrative career opportunities and job stability. Engaging in this field also allows students to contribute to the safety and privacy of individuals and organizations, making their work both meaningful and impactful in today’s tech-driven world.
Students interested in Computer Science, Information Technology, Math and Security should consider this major. The program integrates the key concepts of application design, network architecture and mathematical algorithms. Students develop a security framework for protecting all types of data and as well as the resources used for the data storage and processing. They discover the gaps that allow for breaks in that secure data, networks and resources.
Dr. Wang has published one book chapter, one journal article, and five conference papers in the field of security, which include both scientific security research and innovative developments in security education. He developed the new course of Ethical Hacking at La Salle and obtained a summer research grant to study the security application of generative AIs in 2023.
Dr. Fierson’s research in graph theory and applied mathematics has significant implications for cybersecurity, particularly in enhancing security protocols and threat detection mechanisms. Graph theory is instrumental in identifying critical nodes within networks, assisting in the detection of vulnerabilities and the improvement of defense strategies. Additionally, Dr. Fierson has supervised over 30 undergraduate students in independent research projects, leading to numerous conference talks, journal publications, and award-winning poster presentations. These projects have provided students with valuable professional experience and enriched the academic community with advances in both theory and practical applications.
