Prior to his stroke in 2019, Steve Zarrilli was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the University City Science Center, one of the nation’s largest urban research and innovation centers for technology. Prior to his role at the Science Center, Mr. Zarrilli was the President and Chief Executive Officer of publicly traded Safeguard Scientifics, Inc., a venture capital provider to early stage technology and health science companies. Steve built a career spanning 35 years in a variety of strategic, financial, and operational roles.
During his career Steve also served on a number of boards and today serves on the board of publicly traded Globus Medical, a $1 billion medical device company. Steve has also contributed a substantial amount of time serving on a variety of community based non-profit boards. He was a member of the board of‘Faith in the Future, an organization responsible for overseeing 17 of the former Catholic high schools associated with the archdiocese of Philadelphia. He also served as chairman of the board of Ben Franklin Technology Partners, a state funded entity which provides seed capital to early stage medical science and technology companies.
He continues to serve on the board of the University City Science Center and as an “Entrepreneur in Residence” at Drexel University’s Close School of Entrepreneurship assisting undergraduate students with entrepreneurial business ideas. In addition Steve was the chairman of the Board of Trustees of La Salle University. He graduated from La Salle in 1983 with an accounting degree and began his career at Deloitte as a Certified Public Accountant. He also completed the Advanced Executive Management Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2010. Mr. Zarrilli lives in Malvern, Pa., with his wife Carol.
