The Writing Tutors of La Salle are formally trained tutors who offer assistance on all types of writing to members of the La Salle community. Whether you’re writing a formal essay for a class, a cover letter for a job application, a personal statement for graduate school—or indeed, anything else written down—Writing Tutors offer the opportunity for you to improve your writing and to develop as a writer. Tutors provide help with thesis development and argumentation, organization, revision strategies, and even issues of style and documentation. They work with all writers, undergraduate or graduate, all writing, and at all stages of the writing process.
While the Writing Tutors welcome walk-ins, the best way to seek assistance is by making an appointment through Starfish in the mysalle portal.
The Center for Academic Achievement’s Writing Tutors assist all La Salle students with the writing process in general and with particulars such as:
To get the most out of a tutoring session, be prepared and expect to be an active participant in the tutorial. This means bringing a copy of your assignment (if you’re working on a formal essay) and anything you have already written with you to the tutoring session. Be sure to allow sufficient time to revise your paper after the tutoring session and before you hand in your work. Writing tutors won’t edit for you, but they will help you become a better proofreader and writer.
All students are welcome, all students can benefit, and all students should understand that good writing takes time, patience, and practice.
Students should check Starfish for tutor availability.
The Center for Academic Achievement supports the writing of graduate students seeking advanced degrees by employing accomplished undergraduate, graduate, and professional tutors. Tutors provide support for all types of writing in any and all disciplines. Students may make an appointment in Starfish via the mylasalle portal.
Students may also request administrative tutoring for larger writing projects including theses or dissertations. To do so, email tutoringsupport@lasalle.edu and describe your writing project as well as the nature of your writing support needs.
